In the last year or so, my eyes have been opened to the beauty of adoption through the church, the Word, and several dear friends who have stepped out in faith and accepted God’s calling on their lives to adopt. I have learned that “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…” (James 1:27). I’ve learned that adoption is not only a way to love and serve God and people, but it’s also a testimony to the world about how we as Christians have been adopted into God’s family. It’s a beautiful representation of the Gospel.
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’”
“But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.”
That being said, I’d love to offer you an opportunity to live out the gospel and support one set of friends we know who are adopting. Nathan and Alisa Coriell (and their two kids Noah and Madelynn) have been praying and walking through the adoption process for the past several years. They have recently received their referral and will be traveling to pick up their daughter from China in May. You can read more about their story here.
They have both sacrificed and worked hard to creatively raised funds to make this happen, but they still have over half of the cost of adoption/travel left to raise. The fundraising project they have chosen to use is amazing because it involves serving a widow while providing funds to bring home an orphan (caring for both groups mentioned above in James 1:27!)
Please take time to look at their fundraising page/family letter and prayerfully consider how you can support this family in their adoption. Click here to read more about the Both Hands Ministry and the Coriell adoption project or click below to read their family letter:
We are so excited for the Coriell family and are so encouraged by their determination and their courage to step out in faith to adopt this sweet little girl and accept her into their family. We appreciate any prayers and support you can offer them as well!
