November Tot School – Updated with pictures :)

So here’s a recap of what we actually got to do in Tot School this month:

Bible Verse: I wrote this on a poster and put it on the wall and tried to recite it to the girls throughout the day.

“Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good…”
Psalm 107:1
Great book (but probably will be better for them in a year or two). Short enough, but not very interactive, which they need. It still didn’t hurt to introduce being thankful, though!

Color Focus: Brown (and other fall colors)

-Mixed orange and green to make brown and paint a turkey.

Turkey color book

Letter Focus: Tt

-Painted a turkey (see above)

Music (Mondays): – Grooveshark Playlist

Turkey Trot – This one was a little above their heads, but we did it anyway. :)
To the tune of the Hokey Pokey, sing this song:
You put your right wing in,
You put your right wing out,
You put your right wing in,
And you shake it all about.
You do the turkey trot
And you turn yourself around.
That’s what it’s all about!
Additional verses: Left wing (left arm), drumsticks (legs), stuffing (tummy),
wattle (head), tail feathers (bottom), turkey body (whole self).

Gobbly, Wobbly Turkeys – They liked this one!

(tune:  Ten Little Indians)

One little, two little, three little turkeys,

Gobbly, wobbly, bobbly turkeys,

It’s Thanksgiving Day!

Gray Squirrel – We saw a squirrel in the park one day, and Fairley got a kick out of him shaking his tail, so we started singing this song:
Gray Squirrel, Gray Squirrel,
Swish your bushy tail.
Gray Squirrel, Gray Squirrel,
Swish your bushy tail.
Wrinkle up your funny nose,
Crack a nut between your toes.
Gray Squirrel, Gray Squirrel,
Swish your bushy tail.
Don’t forget to swish your bushy tail when you sing that line. Also, we pretend to wrinkle our funny nose and crack a nut between our toes.

Art Exploration (Tuesdays):

Corn Painting – Use a corn cob as a paint roller to create paintings. – Maybe next year! (Trader Joe’s didn’t have corn on the cob – sad day!)

We did this hand print turkey as a gift for E’s mom and dad!

Science/Sensory (Wednesdays):

Turkey Baster Water Table- saving this one for next year

Popcorn Kernel Sensory Tub- This was a hit! I added in the pumpkin seeds left from October to diversify the texture. We used funnels and measuring spoons, and they loved it!

Continued using pumpkin playdoh

Math (Thursdays):

We used this counting book – Five Silly Turkeys

Counting and sorting feathers – We kind of just played with feathers, but it was still fun. The girls liked when I would name a body part by tickling it with the feather!

Snack: Turkey/cheese tortilla roll-ups – Well, E ate turkey for lunch every day if that counts!
