God Provides for ALL Our Needs

Lately, Freeman and I have really been learning a lot about God’s provision in our lives. Ever since we made the move to NYC, we have had EVERYTHING that we need and more blessings that we could even name! As we prepare for our new little girl (who is arriving in only a little over a month), we have only continued to see how God works and provides for our needs.

As you may know, we live in about 400 square feet. Granted, we don’t mind this at all because we live in one of the best neighborhoods in the city, and we also live in a building where we can “borrow” some space from time to time. So honestly, we already have everything that we NEED, but our desire was to have a little extra space within our existing apartment for Fairley. Back in the fall, we had a team from Tennessee offer to help build a nursery, but since then, some of the team members have run into various roadblocks that were keeping them from making the trip up to NYC. We still knew that God would provide for all our needs so we trusted that He had a plan, even if it looked different than what WE had planned. Just when we thought that we would need to move along to Plans B or C, we received a phone call that the team had found a way to come, and in fact, they were leaving that very night! So here’s an idea of what our apartment looked like once we realized that we needed to make space for them to work…prayers for my sanity as my control idol is broken down while I learn to live in a space that is a little less organized than I would prefer…

So far, they have only been here for about a day, but the work they have already done is astounding. They’ve knocked down and rebuilt a wall between our bathroom and closet, making a nursery space that will be just perfect for Fairley! They are also working on giving us some more storage space outside by building another closet. We are amazed and so grateful for the time, effort, and energy that this team has sacrificially given in order to come serve our family and the MNYBA. Here are some pictures of the work in progress. (The plan is to finish up by next weekend, so I can’t wait to show you the finished product in the next couple of weeks!)

So what, you ask, have I learned from this process? That God always gives you what you want? Not exactly. I am SO grateful that we are able to move forward with our original plan of building a special space for our new baby, but I also know that my God would still be good, even if I didn’t get what I wanted. In times when I want to question what God’s doing, I am reminded that “my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). According to J. Hampton Keathley, III, “governing God’s provision is nothing short of the wealth of what God has done for us in Christ.” We can be assured that we will have everything we need in this life because God has proven his faithfulness by sending his Son and providing for our most crucial spiritual need. Paul explained this well in Romans 8:32 when he said, “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?”

God is not holding out on us. He knows exactly what we need, and He’s already provided for our greatest need, and He’s already given us His most prized possession, so why should we ever think that He won’t give us everything else we need in this life? Our God is faithful and good, and He is worthy to be trusted.

Thank you, Lord, for providing for us through the blood of your Son. Help us to trust you in all things. Amen.
