Who would have thought that we could find enough space within our 400 square foot apartment to build an actual room for our future daughter? Well, Freeman and myself really weren’t the master minds behind it all, but we are so extremely grateful to everyone who helped us with this project so we’d like to take this time to thank them.
First of all, we are so grateful to the MNYBA for their contributions in helping make this a reality. We are especially thankful that we had our dear friend, Anna Ramirez, who is very gifted within the realm of architecture and design, to help lead and guide us along the way. (Neither Freeman nor myself have any giftings within the area of architectural design nor had we had any experience with construction at that point…)
Next, we are to indebted to CenterPointe Fellowship, a partnering church in Tennessee. Led by Pastor Dave Shinault, two different groups of men drove over six hundred miles (one way) to come and work on this project. The first group, which consisted of Dave Shinault and Eddie Cross, knocked down and completely rebuilt walls within two days! The second group, which consisted of Dave Shinault, Danny Bridgeman, and Ronnie McClain, finished the sheet rock on the walls, painted the nursery, built baseboards, put in doors, replaced the floor in the bathroom and the nursery, and so much more!

Dave preached to his church via Face Time from our new nursery!
The tasks these men were able to accomplish are unbelievable, but the sacrifices they made to do it cannot go unsaid. These men all have jobs, which they temporarily placed on hold, and families, who graciously allowed them to leave for a few days to take these trips. And what can I say about their attitudes? Completely a reflection of Christ. They were always joyful and ready to serve, never complaining (even when Dave would work them into the wee hours of the morning!) This is a verse that came to mind as I marveled at the servants’ hearts these guys portrayed:
“If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:11
In humility, these teams came and served our family and our ministry so well. We are definitely praising God for these men because while they were here, they pointed their strength and their efforts as having come from God through Jesus, which we know to be true. We enjoyed not only the service these men provided, but we also enjoyed their company and the Christian fellowship we experienced with them all while they were here. We look forward to continuing a partnership with this church for many years to come. We are so grateful for their work in our home which will alleviate many stresses and help us to focus on the ministry God has called us here to do!
And…a proud wife can’t forget her husband who also helped make this dream a reality! We realized we didn’t have enough boxes of laminate flooring to finish both the bathroom and the nursery, so what does my sweet husband do? He takes a trip to Lowe’s in Brooklyn and carries back three boxes of flooring and one box of wooden trim. (Remember we don’t have a car. Picture my strong husband carrying these boxes several long blocks, down subway stairs, into a subway train (dodging people nonetheless), out of a subway train, down a long hallway, transferring to another subway (dodging people, etc., etc.) back up subway stairs and down another block to our building.) Hooray, Freeman! Fairley will be so proud of your contribution to her room! (He also helped with some of the construction and painting with the help of Owen, his brother, and Krista, our sweet sister-in-law.)
“It’s all in a day’s work as a soon-to-be dad!”
And now, for the moment you’ve all been waiting for…the pictures!
